Christmas period has come to a close, the children have got bord of there new toys and the wine has run out! (ok not in the Christian calendar but in real life where you spend far too much money on tat for your loved ones just to look at it, thank you for it and then sell it on eBay or gumtree it, the moment you turn your back).

We had for once a great Christmas, no major Eastender moments, although the best bit of Christmas was when the kids went to bed and slightly drunk and with one set of besties staying over we played shoot them up with the nerf guns, tin cans, bottles and the odd Christmas dec’s were scattered around our front room and the shooting contest begin (the winner ended on up being Grandma! first-class sniper but we have always believed that she worked for the British secret service).

For some reason only known to our school, we went back on a Tuesday (unlike Monday with the rest of the town) making me a day late on shopping for good local beer and reasonably priced wine and without the kids moaning about how long does it take!! I came up with these.

Organic Avocet Ale from Exeter Brewery 3.9% – so it’s brighter than the sun in colour and as clear as a 4K T.V., it does have a slight shandy smell to it and I’m sure you could make a good shandy too but what I loved about it was that happy summer feel I got just looking at it and then the refreshing great citrus taste, it is organic for those who are consciously minded so there is an extra cost for that but get it on a deal you won’t be disappoint

Pheasant Plucker Hunter Brewery 4.3% – Gorgeous Amber colour with a propper deep beer flavor, after drinking this I was ready for the south-westerly storms that were approaching (which blew down part of my fence) with a warming cuddle around my throat this beer would happily sit in my beer store for winter.

With the wine, these 3 different types and 3 different countries, it was like a typical boy or girl band, 2 stunners and the ok one to make up the numbers.

Prices as of the 12th January 2020

Chilian Sentador(Central valley) Cab Sav 13% £6.00 CO-OP – I would have expected on the top shelf with the expensive wines as from the first powerful taste and its blood clot colour it took me (and Gin) on a fruity tour of Chile flying in and out of the mountains and round the valleys, with its peppery and spicy taste next time we put COCO the film on I will be running down the road to get a bottle, for the price you can’t knock it.

Italian Chianti 12.5 % 2018 CO-OP £6.00 – It was going to need a Juventus team wine to topple the Chilian, but it was more a Roma, yes nice and had an ok taste to it but the colour was just a weak red and the taste didn’t take me to Tuscany and I didn’t get that special buzz you get when you taste something special

Muriel Rioja Vendimia Seleccionada 13.5% Calificada £6.50 – The sun was starting to go down and the lights started coming on in the houses behind, The kids had had Mummys Lasagna yet again (it’s the new Sunday roast ) and were arguing about what film to watch, all that went over our heads as we opened and sampled this wine. Muriel (I remember from my CO-OP days a wine that a number of locals would buy in bulk when on offer) is that 3rd member of the band, the one who brings the voices together, it’s not that rich in history due to being established in 1926 but the Tempranillo grape creates another face slap tango moment, rich and thick and when you pop the cork the aroma fills your nose and tickles the inside, As Nessa would say in Gavin & Stacy “Crackin”
