supercars are amazing, supercars are desirable, and supercars are meant for children for their first driving experience.

Ok yes, it’s true, last Saturday (19th November) I went with squash to an old world war 2 airfield RAF Upottery or locally known as Smeartharpe lying on high ground a few miles from Honiton in Devon built in 1943 for the Americans, and there Dakotas and gliders ready for the upcoming invasion of France more history on this at www.southwestairfields.co.uk.

we arrived we caught the shuttle bus to the reception area and through the thundering sounds of Maclaren Aston Martin BMW Lamborghini Nissan GTs Audi Ferraris Atom & Jaguars to name a few all flying around the old runway.

After booking in we went to the young driver area where sat the cars that the kids could try, now my Squash is mad on Lambos so I booked the ticket and we waited his turn.

looking at the ages of the children with their grinning smiles they all stood watching each other have their driving experience staring at the cars they had chosen with the company driving instructors present.

It was Squash’s turn, 30 minutes of watching other children driving off in these supercars had finally finished. With a cheeky grin, Squash gingerly walked over to the instructor who introduced himself walked him to the driver’s side of the car, then had a few pictures and sat him in the driver’s seat.

Squash held onto the steering wheel and white face nerves came across him, the instructor did his paperwork explained how the car worked, and then said “go on then” with a stutter and a jolt the red Lambo moved away from me and I then had to watch and film my 13-year-old drive a £150,000 car on his first driving experience.

His drive went well and I was impressed, could it be the amount of driving and racing Xbox games that he plays that made the difference, could it of been that he actually listened to the instructor? could it of just been meant to be? but when he got out of the car I got a hug a big thank you and I got to see my little boy my teenager floating around in euphoria.

We spent the next minutes watching the adults driving their machines and the faces of ecstasy when they finished their drives, we collected our photos jumped on the shuttle bus, and headed to the car park, I didn’t drive although wish I had as the adrenaline testosterone running through my veins due to watching these wonderful cars was ripe.

It was about a mile on a private road up to the exit, I looked around it was all clear, then put my foot flat down on the throttle of my automatic car, Squash said “what are you doing?” I replied “just driving my ride” but unlike Thelma and Louise, I slowed down indicated right and joined the main road home.
