Squash for my birthday got me rugby tickets!, He wanted to take me! how cool is that!. Now the game he chose is always an issue with me, I am A Harlequins supporter from the day I first found rugby, it’s the club I followed from school it was my local club and I still follow now.

Back in 1996 (It sounds so long ago) I first moved to Devon, I discovered Exeter Rugby, back on the old county ground, “the now Chiefs” played good rugby, the beer was cheap, the ground was ok and the shop was a portacabin! and if you got the wrong day grit would fly in your face due to the speedway track!, forward on 24 years, new stadium, one championship, 3 times runners up, and year on year top of the league, the Chiefs have come a long way and I have always supported them.

My Lovely Wife had arranged for Squash and Me join the Otter Brewery team (Beer sponsor to the Cheifs) to do the 1/2 time Otter fun run.

In front of 10,000 supporters, the Otter made us (and 4 others) do rugby a warm-up, passing practice, star jumps, squats, press-ups more running with the ball, then we found out our fate…

Two teams, Squash (team captain Blue) had to space hopper the rugby ball 1/2 the length of the pitch to me, I then had to sack race the ball to a pint cup, spin around 10 times (with the cup on my head) and try (in a very dizzy state) and get ball to last team player on the try line, who then had to bungee back up the field to score in a giant Otter pint…all on camera!

Madness but great fun, and what a great team the Otter boys and Lady were to make it a very special day!.

Yes, I was drinking Otter ale and what a fantastic beer, A great colour, great traditional Malty taste with a touch of bitterness but at 3.6% abv a true session beer which you can keep drinking without slurring your words and I do so love the 2 pints jugs but Please Mr. Chairman, reduce the price by a £1 so I can buy more!.
