The warmth of Christmas enveloped our family home in a serene embrace this year, inviting us to savor the joy of togetherness. Opting for a quieter celebration, we embraced the beauty of simplicity, relishing each other’s company and the little moments that truly matter.

Although before we start thinking about the joy, we had on Christmas day, the buildup, the excitement started this way.

In the final flurry of holiday preparations, a last-minute dash to the supermarket in hopes of snagging Christmas food bargains became an anticipated adventure. Laden with the excitement of potential savings and culinary delights, we joined the bustling crowds, weaving through aisles adorned with festive displays. However, our expectations collided with the reality of disappointment as the shelves, once brimming with discounted delights, bore the marks of an earlier rush, leaving a trail of emptiness and dashed hopes.

Yet, amidst this letdown, there was a glimmer of progress. The realization dawned that supermarkets seemed to have made strides in managing their best-before dates, reducing food waste during the festive season. Though the shelves were not overflowing with discounted items due to an earlier rush, it was heartening to see that the efforts to streamline the stocking and handling of perishable goods were paying off. This small victory, while not yielding the anticipated bargains, signaled a step towards a more sustainable approach, ensuring that excess food wasn’t needlessly wasted during the joyous yet often wasteful holiday period.

Back at the home we were gathered around the crackling fireplace, the family shared hearty laughs and a game of monopoly while I cooked the turkey on the Eve of Christmas, the tantalizing scent of roast turkey and sizzling bacon filled the air, adding to the festive ambiance. As the turkey cooked in the oven, its savory fragrance mingled with the smoky allure of bacon, weaving an irresistible aroma that permeated every corner of our home. The anticipation of the forthcoming feast grew with each passing moment, amplified by the enticing scent that wafted through the house, then Brandy our bitch of a Greyhound lovingly farted and had us all running around opening windows and doors to clear the stench that came from her ass.

Christmas Day morning and Amidst the festivities, the excitement and anticipation in the air were palpable, especially as the children couldn’t contain their eagerness to open presents. Although this year for once the children decided that they wanted mum and dad to open their presents first, excitement this year was on us😬 .

So being woken up 5:30 am, and then children insisting, we Succumbing to their contagious enthusiasm, we embarked on unwrapping the presents, we thanked them (it was great, and then Josh remembered he had not bought me anything, and quickly disappeared out the room) then delighting in the pure joy mirrored on their faces.

Then we let the mayhem begin 🤦 with four children unwrapping presents in our bedroom, it was like the scene from Tom and Jerry cartoon when Tom Jerry and Buster begin fighting in a cloud and then the realisation that they scattered our bedroom with wrapping paper and empty toy boxes whilst they bounced and jumped on us in bed.

Now for Christmas lunch we indulged in a feast curated with care, boasting an array of delectable dishes. The spread was a celebration in itself, from my home made pigs in blankets to potatoes 3 ways the choice was just the right balance of flavors to complement the merriment. And what’s Christmas without a touch of cheer? Our beer and wine tasting (all reviews on our Instagram.com/knackered_dadcom) added an extra layer of enjoyment, creating a harmonious blend of relaxation and merry-making.

After a late night, many ports and a bit of brandy too and a glowing for a lovely relaxing Christmas day. Boxing day hit us and we decided to go to our local towns boxing day football match, Exmouth town against Mousehole Cornwall, the game was okay, Exmouth took the lead and were two up at half-time, at this point, I decided to get the kids cheesy chips and a drink (but due to my project managers wife’s favourite words process flow,) I missed most of the second half, waiting for those treats and missed that Exmouth town succumbed to the Mousehole pressure and ended up drawing 2-2 although I didn’t succumb to temptation for the bar and the alcoholic can vending machine.

So Christmas day gently transitioned into the dawn of a New Year, we ushered in the excitement of fresh beginnings. Welcoming our dear friends and their vibrant five-year-old, a whirlwind of energy infused our home. Their little Wild Child added an exhilarating charm to our festivities, injecting infectious laughter and boundless enthusiasm into our celebrations.

The New Year’s bash was nothing short of spectacular, resonating with joyous laughter and the contagious energy of a child’s unfiltered happiness. With each passing moment, we relished the priceless memories being etched into the fabric of time, knowing that these cherished moments would linger in our hearts for years to come.

Amidst the jubilant laughter and the clinking of glasses, we welcomed the new chapter with open arms, surrounded by the love of family and friends. The fire works went off and from our window we could see the whole of the bay light up with magical colours, we also had a bit of fun with sparklers and of course many glasses of fizz, the resulting action being that I passed out on the sofa and made it to bed at 5am.

As the echoes of the Christmas season gradually fade away, what remains are the invaluable memories we crafted, woven intricately with love, joy, and the warmth of companionship. This year’s festivities, adorned with simplicity and the exuberance of loved ones, stand as a testament to the beauty of treasured moments and the enduring spirit of togetherness.

Cheers to a year filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories, sparked by the unbridled joy of children eager to unwrap the magic of the holiday season!
