Do I live in a Covid-19 free zone? over the country people are going on holiday again, It seems that old last month we were scared to open our front doors (unless a Thursday night to clap our wonderful key workers and NHS staff who worked through the pandemic and put there lives in danger) Scared to walk 2 meters near another person, scared to touch a tree a wall or your own door handle.

We spent our time cleaning, disinfecting, sanitising, washing, buying bulk loads of soap, ordering everything online and queuing hours to buy toilet paper. So why suddenly (apart from the face mask in a shop) does everything feel normal again?

I am lucky to live in a holiday destination, A good town with lovely beach ,we are welcoming locals but suddenly the influx of visitors is causing a worry, for some reason its now OK to walk into someone, its OK to forget the 2m -1m rule, its OK to not ware the face mask in a takeaway, its now OK to shake peoples hands again, its now OK to sit next to someone you don’t know on a park bench or even on a bus, its OK to happily get hammered in the pub and start cuddling the person on the next table to you and then as a pack of donuts sticking together you roll down the street. I see people happily going about there daily business like nothing has happened these last 5 months, I see visitors randomly talking to locals for directions but not sticking to the rules about social distancing.

Have we got this wrong? there are queues at the ice-cream kiosk resembling the conga, mass groupings of people walking together and taking up the path, the beach is full (although not like in Dorset where its OK to sit on someone) of bikini and board short beauty’s showing of their fit sun drenched bodies in large groups sipping beers and wine, the pubs & bars are full to the max with extra outside seating serving food and drink to the masses. we go down to the sea and our wonderful visitors think they are safe swimming next to us or join in with a water fights, Bins are over flowing with used bbq’s, empty bottles, food and general rubbish (seagulls having a field day) and we have had a few nights of mass brawls on the beach.

So with all this we must be Covid-19 free? right!

The world has changed and I do understand we need to deal and live with covid, we do need to get the local economy going, get kids back in school and the rest of us back to work but for the moment in my town it seems as if covid never existed well from our visitors it seems.

Please if you are travelling to get away, if you need to have a holiday (and we all do need one!) Please Please Please just remember to Stay Safe, remember that you may be visiting a area where there is a low chance of infection but just take care around you actions, please where a mask when you need to, watch out when you walk walk about, social distance where possible and please wash your bloody hands ; )
