As we are well into the RBS rugby 6 nations, is it not funny how when the weekend teams “break” happens, we all get worried, yes, for 1. worried for what we are going to do without international rugby for a weekend but, 2. worried due to the commercialism that is valentines day (or the English RFU are putting out subline messages for the English Rugby supporters to buy there latest Jack nowell scrum cap or Owen Farrell stary eye novelty glasses merchandise)

Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love wore roses around her head, kneck & feet, her lover Adonis, when die died, grew a rose bush from his blood, (so romantic!) Eternal love for his goddess, in another form of love the rose is a symbol of gods love and sacrifice in Christianity.
From a young age we are thrown into this world of love, will I get a card, could I get a Rose, maybe some jewelry, a weekend away, spar day … the list goes on.

Yes, it is good to have a day to celebrate, but my issue on this is … why wait for one day in the year to show your love for someone? why must pressure be put on individuals who for the rest of the year are showing their love? or do we all need a kick up the ass to get more romantic as jobs, friends, clubs, children get in the way?
Do we need that one day to remember why we love someone so much, As we inside know our love for them, and we may believe they know it too but are we doing all we can to show our love? and not just with the occasional “love u” but with random acts of showing your love (and not just a box of Rose’s chocolates and then hoping for a quick bunk up in return)

At Primary school, the boys will be giggling away in one corner at which girl they are sending a card to, and the Girls will be huddled in the other corner whispering to each other about who they like (it all changes in Secondary when you find your own pathway in love) then the mass explosion and free-fall as it goes wrong and the Top girl gets a card from the class “Gru” (and not her chosen boy) so she is sent screaming away, but for “Gru” this starts his life of world domination.

Must we really go on this journey every year? the flowers and booze get more expensive, (how does that happen?) the restaurants are full of grumpy couples trying to rediscover there love for one night, and then 9 months later another crop of Valentine babies appears.
I am not against it, (and I do Honestly tell my wife how much I love her every day and surprise her with gifts at different times of the year, although she has to put up with me ) and if it brings love back to a forgetful world then long live it.
